According to the Natural Stone Council, granite exists as deep as 31 miles into the Earth. As an igneous rock, it becomes molten magma when exposed to a cooler milieu (anywhere above Earth’s cauldron). The process is very slow; the granite formations located at Yosemite took around 100 million years to form.

Granite, like any high quality product— cannot be rushed. It can take millions of years for granite to form within the earth. Its hardness comes from being exposed to intense heat and pressure . The toughest swords in history were made by exposing steel to high heat before being cooled with a dip in the water. Ottawa granite countertops are made in a similar way.

Hardness

Granite is rated between 6 and 7 on the Moh’s Hardness Scale; it is harder than orthoclase, but not as hard as quartz. This makes sense because most granite contains quartz. An ordinary kitchen knife will not scratch it, but a piece of pure quartz rock can. In some cases, scratch tests are carried out using brass styli with a specific alloy tip signifying scratch intensity.

Ottawa granite countertops like those at TNT Tile & Marble have their advantage in the kitchen. The countertops won’t scratch with daily use. At this level of hardness, there are only a few materials that can scratch it, namely diamonds.

Compressive Strength

Granite is no stranger to compressive strength; pressure comprises half of its life cycle. It can resist up to 250 MPa (about 36,260 psi) of compression before it fails. In comparison, concrete used in construction can only resist half of what granite can. Formation of granite starts at the subduction zones in the upper part of the mantle where pressure has been recorded at a staggering 2.5 GPa (about 362,600 psi; more than ten times what granite can resist). As molten rock rises to the surface, the pressure drops.

Overall, granite is the best option for countertops when it comes to hardness and strength. It had to endure intense heat and pressure for millions of years before appearing in your kitchen. It’s a testament to how the Earth has been making tough rocks before history itself.

Suppose you are looking at remodeling your kitchen. You’ve spent your time scouring a number of credible home decoration magazines for the perfect design that will suit the space. You’re confident that when the work is done, all that will be left is an area so clean and organized that you won’t see a thing out of place.

Kitchen remodeling considerations should include determining what kind of countertops to install. A well-designed, glistening countertop is not only sure to enhance the overall look of the space; it can also inspire the preparation of delicious home cooked meals. Among the materials for countertops, granite emerges as the most prevalent choice. As such, you may want to look for quality granite countertops in Ottawa sold by companies such as TNT Tile and Marble.

Nature-fashioned Design

Mostly found underground as a product of cooling magma, granite is available in many colours. Since no two places of volcanic activity are the same, these slabs of igneous rock that are often turned into countertops sport different patterns as well. In certain cases, granite may have stones of other varieties embedded in them.

When fashioned into a countertop, granite takes on the role of an integral interior design component. Depending on the overall colour of the kitchen, the countertop can provide an attractive contrast to an otherwise uniform space. A supplier of countertops in Ottawa can present you with samples of granite rocks to add some spice to your kitchen.

Acclaimed Benefits

While granite is categorized as a porous rock, a granite countertop from a reputable manufacturer is guaranteed to have been heavily machined and sealed for solid protection against bacteria buildup. Maintaining one is likewise a breeze; just use a cloth with light detergent and water and the surface will look as good as new. Granite countertops will also help increase the resale value of your house if you ever decide to sell the property. People are willing to pay good money for a smart combination of beauty and function.

Adding granite countertops to your kitchen is a worthy investment because they are simple to maintain and provide a unique sheen to the place. Apart from being an attractive element of design, granite is also a practical choice in terms of strength and durability.

The most attractive and durable countertops, in particular, are those made of granite . Here ...

The most attractive and durable countertops, in particular, are those made of granite . Here are some suggestions on buying, installing, and caring for granite countertops.

Buying Stage: Inquiries About the Production and Installation Process

The first thing that one should do before getting Ottawa granite countertops is to find out if the granite company also installs them. This is because major warehouse companies are usually not involved in granite fabrication and installation. These tasks are more often done by third-party installers and out-of-town granite specialists.

It is also important to note that granite craftsmen fabricate and install countertops manually, while major granite companies do fabrication and installation by machine. The difference lies in the fact that machine-fabricated granite products typically have less polished edges compared with hand-fabricated ones. Prospective countertop owners should ask established Ottawa granite fabricators such as TNT Tile and Marble if they do manual polishing of the edges. They should likewise determine if the fabricator provides sealing services to enhance the countertop’s surface.

A prospective buyer mustn’t only look at the finished product but should have an idea about what went behind its production as well. For instance, it would be helpful to know if the fabricator installed granite seams using a suction-automated seaming machine. This apparatus fixes the seams in place and helps flatten them to the fabricated countertop, thereby enhancing the appearance of countertop edges.

Maintenance Phase: Caring for Granite Countertops

Granite countertops require regular maintenance and cleaning. Homeowners should wipe countertop surfaces with water and neutral pH-formulated stone cleaning agents instead of abrasive chemicals as the latter can damage the countertop. Cleaning professionals recommend the use of microfiber cloth to remove dust from surfaces. On the other hand, stains can be removed using substances like baking soda, flour, and dish soap.

Countertops also require regular sealing work and should be resealed if water no longer beads on the surface. Owners need to test their sealer at least once a year. Sealing can be done by the homeowner as long as they use a natural stone clear sealer specifically for granite countertops. If the homeowner is unsure how to care for their granite, they can call a reputable granite fabricator. They will provide professional services and advice on how one can extend the life of a granite countertop.

It’s worth noting that quartz countertops in Ottawa aren’t made entirely of natural quartz, despite ...

It’s worth noting that quartz countertops in Ottawa aren’t made entirely of natural quartz, despite the fact that this mineral is one of the most abundant on Earth. Unlike granite, pre-engineered quartz does not come in the form of stone slabs but in clusters. As such, it needs to undergo another process in the factory, where it will be mixed with a touch of manmade innovation: polymers. The result is what the industry calls “engineered stone.”

A typical quartz engineered stone is a combination of 90 to 95 percent quartz (usually 93 percent), polymer resins, and other agents like pigments. The latter is particularly important, considering how much of the appeal of quartz relies on its aesthetic finish. The resulting color, pattern, and texture of the stone are what make this material a popular choice for kitchen countertops in Ottawa homes.

Production starts by mixing the main ingredients and sending them to a compacting chamber. In this chamber, the additives seep into the crushed quartz through the process of vibration. The mixture is compacted and shaped into slabs by a compressive force of at least 100 tons. Later, hot curing at a temperature of 85 degrees will help set the additives in to make the material less porous.

With the resins filling the gaps in the countertops’ structure, water absorption is greatly reduced. Engineered stone can exhibit hydrophobic properties—a feature that’s similar to the ability of leaves to let a drop of water form on its surface. Thanks to this property, there’s a narrower window for the water to seep into the stone.

In addition, any spill on the quartz countertops in Ottawa can be cleaned easily. However, take note that while engineered stone is less porous, it’s not nonporous. Liquid stains on the countertop must be wiped as soon as possible, as there’s a greater chance that fluids will find their way into the countertop the longer they stay on the surface.

Engineered stones are likewise known to have built-in sealants in the form of resins that have been added during production, thereby eliminating the need for aftermarket sealing. Given all these benefits, it’s no surprise that there is a high demand for quartz countertops. The cost of these products varies according to factors like size and installation, so it’s best to ask a reputable manufacturer like TNT Tile and Marble for a quotation.

Granite countertops are very strong and durable but they also need regular maintenance to keep ...

Granite countertops are very strong and durable but they also need regular maintenance to keep them beautiful and functional. If you bought granite countertops in Ottawa from an established manufacturer like TNT Tile & Marble Inc., here are some things you can do to protect them from daily wear and maintain their l finish.

Protect them with sealant

Most providers of granite countertops already treat the stone with sealant before installation. However, if your countertops were not sealed, you can purchase a sealer, cleaner, and polisher at a local hardware store and do it yourself. If you don’t know how to seal granite counters, it’s best to call on the professionals. Sealing is ideally done every 1-5 years depending on the sealer used. It is best to test your sealant annually. This can be done by dropping some water on your countertop. If the water beads, then your countertops are still sealed, if the water penetrates the stone, then it is time to re-seal.

Make use of hot pads or trivets

Granite can withstand the heat of your hot pans, pots, and dishes. However, if your granite is no longer sealed, grease and oil from the bottom of your pans may stain your countertop. By using hot pads and trivets, you can help prevent staining if your countertop needs to be re-sealed.

Clean up spills immediately

The best way to keep your granite countertops looking new is to clean up spills quickly. This will ensure that nothing will be able to penetrate the sealer and leave a stain. This can be done by Making it a habit to keep soft clean cloth or paper towels handy whenever you’re cooking. The moment you notice a drop of spaghetti sauce or a small puddle of orange juice on your countertop, don’t wait for it to seep in or dry up, quickly wipe it up.

Avoid sitting on granite countertops

Do not let anyone sit on your new granite countertops. Some people like to hang out in your kitchen and have a seat on the countertop. This can cause your granite to crack or break. . Also do not place heavy objects near the edges or stand on your countertops to reach items in the top cabinets or shelves.

By practicing these tips, your kitchen’s granite countertops will last a lifetime. You and your family can enjoy numerous meals and culinary adventures with your eye-catching, tough, and reliable countertops for many years to come.

Quartz is a popular countertop material among many homeowners. If you’re planning an extensive renovation project for your kitchen, you might want to delve into the possibility of having a quartz countertop at the centre of it.
Colour

Many people think that quartz countertops are only available in black, brown, or white. There are, in fact, other options. There’s blue, orange, silver, red, green, and many more.
Price

The price of quartz countertops is continually shifting, depending greatly on factors like the availability of the product, manufacturer dictates, installation costs, and source from which the quartz were quarried. To get a price on quartz countertops, you will need to bring your layout and measurements to a local quartz fabricator.

Choosing the perfect quartz countertop for your kitchen may take some time. However, you’ll be able to rest easyknowing that your countertop is going to make your kitchen a whole lot prettier, and far more durable.

One of the simplest and most effective ways to transform the look of your kitchen ...

One of the simplest and most effective ways to transform the look of your kitchen is to replace the countertop. Countertops are the focal point and main working area of a kitchen. They can easily be revitalized with a zing of colours and high-rated materials. The materials you choose will also determine how long these countertops will last.

Granite countertops are unmatched when it comes to beauty and durability. While countertops fabricated by the best Ottawa granite countertop distributors can be expensive, the many years of service you get from granite will surely outweigh the costs. Since granite lasts 3 to 5 times longer than other material used in kitchens, your granite countertop and may very well be the last countertop you purchase for your home.

The elegance that a granite countertop exudes is easily its main selling point. They are available in a wide variety of exquisite colors and patterns that are absolutely stunning. The look of the natural stone is protected by using sealers that make granite stain resistant. In the rare event that a granite countertop breaks, it can usually be repaired easily.

Granite countertops make solid investments. A lot of Ottawans prefer having these in their kitchens because they will increase the home’s resale value. The state of a home’s kitchen is a main draw—or drawback—for potential homebuyers. A good countertop certainly offers a strong hook to close a sale.

The stone also makes for a healthier alternative to less compact materials. Countertops are often exposed to bacteria because raw foods are usually prepared on them. The sealants used to protect the material also produce an impenetrable shield from pathogens that would, otherwise, easily contaminate kitchen utensils and other items.
